Album Review: Valentiine – Valentiine

Valentiine are a fresh, all female trio from Australia, although judging by the Nirvana-esque grunge tinged riffs on their stunning full length debut you could be forgiven for thinking they were from the famous capital of grunge music Seattle.

That’s not to say that Valentiine aren’t original, this album is an aural delight from start to finish. From the sinisterly catchy ‘Chucky’ with it’s wonderful chorus “And I chuck, and I chuck, and I chuck my guts up, I feel like God on the bathroom floor…” to the dark nineties grunge-fest that is ‘Finch’. There wasn’t a moment I felt like I needed to press the ‘Skip’ button. I felt like I was listening to something exciting and energising. The music is passionate, dark but playful at the same time.

The girls have just finished a brief tour of the UK, but with positive press from heavy weights such as Classic Rock magazine, I’m sure they will back to our shores. If the energy in their live shows can match the intensity and power that they display on this album then I think Valentiine have big things in store for their future.
